The fleeting rose of Xiaguang—the tender pink that flushes the sky just before sunrise, gone almost before it is seen. It carries the soft hopefulness of dawn and the delicacy of peach blossom, the Chinese emblem of spring and renewal. Among the most capricious of glazes, its blush is teased from trace copper or gold suspended in the melt, a hue that lives or dies on the precise breath of the kiln.
