The deep, oceanic cobalt that travelled the Silk Road from ancient Persia to the Chinese kilns, where it met the brush of master painters and gave birth to blue-and-white porcelain—the world's first universal design language. It carries the romance of trade winds and distant shores, of two civilisations meeting in a single colour. Drawn from imported cobalt ore, it is fired at high heat until the mineral fuses into the glaze, blooming with the depth and slight scatter that marked the most coveted wares of their age.
