The deep, golden ochre of ripe grain and the imperial "tender yellow" glaze of the Ming court—yellow, the colour of the earth element at the centre of all things. Warm and grounding, it glows with the abundance of autumn fields heavy with harvest. Its richness rises from iron and antimony in a clean oxidising fire, the artisan holding the flame steady so the gold stays luminous rather than clouding into brown.
